2nd April is the World Autism Awareness Day. Kingdom of Serbia Association includes in the marking of this day, wishing that more people get informed about autism, to break down prejudices and discrimination that goes to the people who have autism.
In a situation where the pandemic of the Covid-19 virus makes the life of people with autism more difficult, disrupting their daily routine and causing major problems in their daily lives, marking this date and raising awareness is especially important. General Secretary of the United Nations, Mr. Antonio Guterres stated: “We must ensure that a prolonged disruption caused by COVID-19 does not result in rollbacks of the rights of people with autism.”
Autism is a complex developmental disorder. General population doesn’t know much about autism, and there are numerous false and wrong prejudices. What should be pointed out above all is that autism is NOT a disease, and that people with autism have the same feelings, desires and needs as well as members of the typical population.
